HOSPITAL

Our Hospital is open 6 days a week and admits any patients in emergencies anytime on any days. Consultations are extended at free to all the patients. Medicines are available at free of cost to all the monks and 50% reduced price for all the lay and local people alike. And those medicines received from NGOs as donations are distributed freely to all the patients. On average of over 2000 out patients visits our hospital each month.

We have a Physician holder of MBBS degree with decades of experience. He resides in the residence provided within SJHCCs hospital complex and his service is available for 24 hours.

 

  

And we have also a Tibetan medication to the patients, for this we have a special Tibetan traditional doctors and medical facilities with well equipped.


 

 

TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL AND ERADICATION PROJECT.

Sera Jhe Health care was able to start providing free treatment to the entire TB patients in Sera Monastery from the 1st July 1994. By 1998 our health care has successfully treated more than 500 TB patients. Almost all the patient had pulmonary or laryngeal TB. The process of treatment last between 6 months to 2 years.

We also have Prof M. Sada Dev (MBBS, DMRD, TDD & MD) an eminent TB specialist visiting our hospital once every month especially for the benefits of our TB patients.  We have 12 trained monks who work largely on voluntary basis as nurse. 
 

 

IN-PATIENT WARD

We have 10 beds in the patient ward in the hospital. Patients can also occupy rooms from the guesthouse if they need privacy and who can afford to pay some amount. On average about 50 patients are admitted each month with various health cases. In-patients don't have to pay any money as bed charge. Hospital is equipped with ultra silent generator that supplies power to overcome frequent power outrage in the area.

 

DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION PROGRAM

The drinking water and sanitation program is being given priority because gastro enteric and diarrhea diseases together accounted for a large proportion of the disease incidence in the Monastic communities
Sera Jhe Health Care Committee is the sole organization fully responsibility for the supply of clean drinking water at free of any charge to the entire Monastic community of Sera Jhe Monastery.  Till this date SJHCC has successfully constructed 5 elevated water tanks with capacities ranging between 75,000 to 150000 litres of water.

 

 

DENTAL CLINIC

One of the senior most staff of our health care committee heads our Dental clinic. He is fully trained by a renowned French Dentist who is staying in south India. He is now capable to do all the major treatment, Amalgam filling, Glass Ionomer filling, Composite filling Scaling, Root Canal treatment, Extraction ect.

We give reduction of almost 75% to all the patients on any of above treatment at our Dental clinic. Occasionally some foreign dentist also visits our clinic and gives voluntary services. We organized one week dental training program at our Health Centre on 30th March 2008 by inviting Professors and Dentist visited our health centre on and given one week training program to our dental staffs.

 

X-Ray & Electro Cardio-Gram

X-Ray and Electro Cardio-Gram (ECG) are efficiently done at a small fee while TB patients are allowed to take X-Ray free of cost. Each month about 150 X-Ray is taken at this X-Ray unit in our hospital.
 

 

 Laboratory.

Laboratory test are also done at nominal fee. About 100 Lab test is done each month by one lab technician. Most of the cases are Diabetes and Sputum test. Blood group test is done at free and blood donors can get free lab test at anytime on any day.

 

ESSENTIAL DRUGS SUPPLY FUND

Large portions of Monastic community covered by our health care services are destitute and poor monks who had fled Tibet in recent years leaving behind everything. Thus, we still rely on gift drugs.

 

EMERGENCE MEDICAL FUND (EMF)

This fund is created to provide financial support to very poor monks and senior monks who cannot afford medical treatment they require. All the unspecified funds donated to the SJHCC are kept in EMF.

 

ENVIRONMENT CARE PROJECT.

Environment protection is another scope of service in which SJHCC has made very good contributions for the Monastic community. The maintenance of cleanliness and proper and systematic disposal of waste from the entire monastic community is fully taken care of by SJHCC.

We have six working staff employed for sanitation services and sweepers are employed to clean the roads and public places within the Monastic complex and the immediate surrounding areas.
