About us
Sera Jhe Health Care Committee known as SJHCC, is a non-profit charitable organization registered under the Government of India's society registration Act XXI of 1860. The SJHCC is fully managed by monks, who are democratically elected by the representatives of the general monks for a term of three years voluntary services.
SJHCC was established in 1989 as a health care service provider having autonomous status within the organizational structure of the Sera Jhe Monastic University (One of the three largest traditional Tibetan Monastic Centers in the world.) to look after the health care system for over 4500 strong monks plus local Indians and lay Tibetan Peoples. SJHCC has integrated the traditional system of Tibetan medicine with allopathic PHC system. So, the two systems of the medicines run in parallel to each other to have maximum benefit to the public.

Background
During early years, the community was faced with serious health problem; the number of Monks suffering from Tuberculosis and other diseases increasing at alarming rate and medical facility was almost non-existent. Clean Drinking Water and sanitation and proper maintenance of environment was another major problem faced by the Community. The first important service was construction of a new proper Dispensary equipped with all the vital medical facilities. In a community bereft of proper medical care and services, the Dispensary has proved to be of tremendous benefit to the Monastic community. Local Indian people have also benefited a great deal from the medical services offered at our Hospital. The beneficiary of health care facilities include local Indian villagers, lay Tibetans from surrounding Settlements, besides providing basic and comprehensive medical services to its 3500 strong Sera Jhe Monastic Community. This has resulted in better sanitation in the area and greatly improved overall health of the monks. It also helped to prevent various diseases including the serious ones, such as Tuberculosis, which was once rampant among the monks.
SJHCC Today:

MONKS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM.
A large number of monks are unable to bear restriction imposed on religious study and practices in Tibet. They left Tibet by leaving behind relatives and all the belongings and joined Monasteries in India. Here in Sera Jhe Monastery the majority of the monks are recently arrived from Tibet. Since they have no one to turn on help, it becomes moral responsibility of the Monastic administration and organizations to help solve their various problem including health and financial needs. In order to help such poor and needy monks, SJHCC runs a MONKS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME under which it provides financial assistance to the monks.
Anyone interested to become a sponsor is most appreciated to write to us for case histories of the monks in need of sponsorship help.
FINANCIAL RESOURCES
The committee aims at eventually becoming self reliant. Towards this goal, the committee runs a Guest House, a small Restaurant, Vegetable and provision shop and cyber café, as income generating enterprises. The profit made from these ventures is fully utilized for meeting recurring cost of the Hospital maintenance and services. However, the income generated accounts just a small fraction of the overall expenditure incurred on maintaining the Hospital and medical services provided for the monastic community.
Hence we still need financial assistance from NGOs and individual benefactors to continue our services.
SJHCC NEEDS YOUR HELP.
Sera Jhe Health Care Committee urgently needs your financial supports in order to maintain in various health care services as much as to further strengthen and upgrade its health care services and hospital facilities in order to fully cater to the medical care needs of the massive Monastic community including local Indians and the lay Tibetan people.
We sincerely appeal our various benefactors, individual sponsorships, contributors, the organizations, and associations to generously contribute to the any of above specific projects (irrespective of amount, either whole or partially or one or towards general health care funds.
